When you tell people that you want to become an author, you get all sorts of advice. And you kind of have to select what works for you, and what does not.πŸ˜€

But one advice that I have always adhered to, is to 'keep reading.' Not only in the genre(s) that you write in yourself, but a broad scope of genres.

In fact, I have always been reading for as long as I can remember, even before starting school back in the day, almost like it was natural. So, the advice was somewhat easy to adhere to, since I was already doing it anyway.πŸ˜…

Over the last month or two - interrupted by a vacation to Japan - I have been reading two trilogies: the first one, is 'The Poppy War' trilogy, by R.F. Kuang, and the second one, is the 'Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy', by Liu Cixin.

The former is a grim dark fantasy story; and even though I was warned beforehand of how dark and grim it could be at times, I was still somewhat surprised by that aspect of the narrative. But it was overall a gripping story with engaging characters, and I am sure it will stay with me for a long time.πŸ˜€

As far as the latter trilogy goes, it certainly does what good sci-fi is supposed to do; ask questions and make the reader speculate, and wonder. Now, the books are definitely smarter than me, and I will not pretend to fully understand every term and concept, that are utilized in them. But I was still very much intrigued by the humanistic aspects in the narrative.πŸ˜€

Both trilogies can certainly be recommended, if you like (grim dark) fantasy, and (hard) science-fiction.πŸ₯°
